Wallace Moore dressed as Negro Scout

Negro Scouts

These stories examine the contributions of African American Scouts during the Indian War period. Many of these men are not household names, like Buffalo Bill or Kit Carson. However, the trails they blazed made history just the same. The stories of the Seminole Negro Indian Scouts are an example of a series of great tales that have yet to be told. Under the leadership of John Kibbetts and John Horse, (or as he was sometimes called John Coballo), the negro scouts received four Congressional Medals of Honor. They served for six months at a time, scouting and working as mercenaries for the US Army. Their scouting history started in 1872 with campaigns against the Comanche and Apache’s along the Rio Grande. They continued to work for the US Army until 1914. There are many true stories to tell about them that the world has never heard, and Wallace Moore loves a chance to tell their tales.

The stories of other African American Scouts are just as exciting. The life and times of men like Jim Beckwourth,John T. Glass, Brit Johnson, Tom Tobin, Frank Grouard, Charles “Smokey” Wilson, and Sam Bowman; are just as exciting and true. These stories are filled with the same kind of adventures that you see in some of our great western movies. Barkingwater Productions brings the stories of these men to life.
