Storyteller Wallace Charles Moore, Sr.

The most common request Wallace receives is for stories about the Buffalo Soldiers. In1866, legislation mandated the enrollment of six regiments of negro’s into the U.S. Army. Two of these regiments were Cavalry and four were Infantry. The Buffalo Soldiers served from 1866 until 1944. By the end of the Spanish American War, 18 enlisted men received the Congressional Medal of Honor. Therefore, there are an untold number of stories Wallace can share with the public about their exploits. All of the stories are true, but some are a bit hard to believe.

For example, many clients request the tale of the Wham Paymaster Robbery. The story is about a squad of the 24th Infantry from Fort Grant, AZ. While assigned to guard the paymaster, a superior number of outlaws ambushed the Buffalo Soldiers. However, the Buffalo Soldiers prevailed, and Corporal Isaiah Mays received the Medal of Honor. This story would make a great movie, and Wallace makes it come to life.

The Ninth and Tenth Cavalry crossed their sabers with most of the war like tribes in the Southwest. They fought engagements from the border of Mexico to the slopes of the Rocky Mountains. During their time they built several Army forts, roads, and at the same time fought outlaws, Mexican Bandits, and Indians. They ended their Indian War Period in combat against the Great Apache Nation. There are many standards that were set by the Buffalo Soldiers that are still in place today. The stories that we will tell you can range from the early Indian War Period to the sands of north Africa.
